Formula and rules

  • Objects become "key: value" pairs; arrays become "- item" lines.
  • Indentation increases one level per nested object or array, using 2 or 4 spaces as selected.
  • Strings that look like numbers, booleans or null are quoted so YAML keeps them as text.
  • Strings with line breaks or leading/trailing spaces are wrapped in double quotes.
  • Empty objects become {} and empty arrays become [].

Worked examples

Flat object

Result tags: - seo - tools - calculators

Array of objects

Input {"items":[{"id":1,"ok":true},{"id":2,"ok":false}]}

Result items: - id: 1 ok: true - id: 2 ok: false

FAQ

Is my JSON uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. Closing the tab clears the data, and nothing is sent to a server.

Why are some strings wrapped in quotes?

YAML treats values like 123, true or null as numbers and booleans. Quoting them keeps them as text, so a postal code or version number does not turn into a number.

Does it support comments, anchors or multi-document YAML?

JSON has no comments, anchors or documents, so the output is a single YAML document without them. Nested objects, arrays and scalar types are fully supported.
