Outer Loop is a desktop and mobile browser built around a simple but unusual idea: the things you browse are not only websites, but also apps and services reachable over SSH or on localhost. Instead of opening a terminal to start a backend and then switching to a browser, you point Outer Loop at the host and let it present the service as a window. The project positions itself as a native graphical shell for SSH, and it is designed primarily to run Outer Shell.
The browser extends networking beyond HTTP by embracing SSH and Unix domain sockets, so remote processes and local daemons can be surfaced directly. On top of that, it adds a native web-like platform that runs the underlying operating system’s app platform inside a sandbox, blurring the line between a web view and a native app. Documentation covers installation on Linux, macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, and Windows, along with notes on security and the open-source components such as the socket bridge and Bash scripts.
Outer Loop is aimed at developers, homelab operators, and technical users who already run services on servers or local machines and want a more graphical way to reach them. It is less suited to casual browsing or to people who expect a conventional browser with extensions and a large web ecosystem. Because several builds are labeled preview or early access, users should be comfortable with incomplete features and platform-specific setup steps.
A practical approach is to start with a single service you alrea
