FluxDown is an open-source download manager that rebuilds the classic downloader around a Rust engine and a native, GPU-rendered interface. The project is developed in public under AGPL-3.0 on GitHub, with releases, issues and discussions visible to everyone.
Its core covers runtime dynamic segmentation and a wide protocol set: HTTP, FTP, BitTorrent, eD2K, HLS and DASH. Browser capture grabs links from the browser, while plugins provide resolvers, hooks and subscriptions. A theme system and Theme Builder let users design and export their own color schemes.
Beyond the desktop app, FluxDown ships server and NAS builds, a CLI, an Android build and a browser extension. The API Reference documents REST, aria2-compatible and MCP endpoints, making it usable in scripts and automated pipelines.
It is aimed at technically comfortable users: self-hosters running a headless server, developers integrating downloads via API or CLI, and anyone who prefers an open, plugin-driven tool over a closed consumer downloader.
New users should start with the native GPUI client, then check the docs and changelog before wiring up plugins or the server build. The community channels (GitHub, Telegram, QQ Group) are the place to report bugs and vote on features.
