BottleCap AI publishes token-efficient variants of open models, and ThinkingCap: Gemma-4-26B-A4B is the fifth entry in that series. It is the first ThinkingCap built on a Google model, following four earlier releases on Qwen and NVIDIA Nemotron bases. The premise is straightforward: keep answer quality intact while cutting the volume of thinking tokens the model generates.
Across twelve benchmarks, the model reports up to 69.1% fewer thinking tokens and a 38.9% average reduction, at a cost of 0.15pp accuracy. BottleCap describes this as the smallest accuracy cost of any ThinkingCap so far. Looping also declines, from 3.6% of the original model’s responses to 0.8%. Sampling settings stay the same (thinking on, temperature 1.0, top_p 0.95) and it runs on vLLM as a drop-in replacement.
A PRO tier is offered for higher efficiency, claiming up to 87.6% fewer thinking tokens and 62% on average, aimed at faster responses and lower inference costs at scale. Enterprise inquiries go through enterprise@bottlecapai.com. The post is dated October 23, 2026, and runs about nine minutes.
This is aimed at ML engineers and infrastructure teams already serving Gemma-4-26B-A4B who want to reduce latency and token spend without rebuilding their pipeline. Because the sampling configuration and serving stack are unchanged, evaluation can focus on output quality rather than integration work.
Before adopting, validate the reported reductions on your own workload, since benchmark averages may not
