The Daily Californian is the independent, student-run newspaper serving UC Berkeley and the surrounding city. Its newsroom covers the campus, city and county, with additional reporting on state and national issues that affect the university community. The site also carries obituaries and investigations, giving readers a record of both daily events and longer-running stories.
Sports coverage is organized by team, from baseball and basketball to crew, rugby and swimming and diving, alongside columns and a Bear Bytes section. Arts and culture coverage spans music, film and television, theater, visual art, literature and fashion, plus video games and comedy. Opinion runs editorials, columns, op-eds, letters to the editor and the Soapbox, while Lifestyle adds how-tos, local guides and quizzes.
Multimedia includes videos, photo essays, podcasts and cartoons, and the Weekender section collects features, personal essays, poems, fiction and zines. Puzzles and data pieces round out the reading options. Readers can also find advertising, classifieds and legal notices, and the Hall of Fame and support pages document the paper’s history and funding.
Use the section menu to jump straight to a beat rather than scrolling the homepage, and check Special Issues and Editor’s Picks for curated collections. Because content is produced by students, verify breaking details against other outlets. It remains a useful daily read for anyone tracking Berkeley campus life.
