Steam Community is the social layer of Valve’s Steam platform, separate from the storefront but connected to the same account. Each game has its own hub that gathers official announcements alongside player-made content, ranked by user activity and ratings. From there you can move into discussions, screenshots, artwork, guides, and videos without leaving the page.
The core features center on participation. Discussions host threads on troubleshooting, strategy, and general chat; the Workshop lets players publish and subscribe to mods, maps, and items that install directly into supported games; the Market handles trading cards and in-game items; and Broadcasts let anyone watch or stream gameplay. Profiles, friends lists, groups, and achievements round out the social side.
It is aimed at PC players who already own games on Steam and want to go beyond downloading them. Modders use the Workshop as a distribution channel, traders watch the Market, and players checking whether a title is worth buying often read hub discussions and user reviews first. Groups and friend activity make it useful for staying in touch with people you play with.
New users should sign in with a Steam account to post, comment, or subscribe to Workshop items; browsing much of the content is possible without logging in. Be aware that hub quality differs widely by game, and community moderation is uneven, so treat user posts as opinion rather than fact. For anyone inside the Steam ecosystem, it is the default
