Inca is a free, open-source desktop application for 3D modeling, animation and rendering, available for Windows, Mac and Linux. It is positioned as a Maya 2020-style toolset, aiming to give users a familiar production workflow without licensing costs, and it is distributed under the MIT license with source code available on GitHub.
The modeling toolset covers polygon work on n-gon meshes with extrude, bevel, bridge, multi-cut, booleans, quad draw and sculpting brushes, plus NURBS primitives and CV, EP, pencil and arc curves for revolve, loft and extrude operations. Construction history is preserved at every step, so parameters such as bevel segments can be revised later.
Animation and rigging include keyframing, a Time Slider, Graph Editor and Dope Sheet, along with skeletons using IK, skin binding and weight painting, constraints, deformers, blend shapes and set driven keys. Look development is handled in the Hypershade with Standard Surface, Lambert, Blinn and Phong materials and a node graph for file, checker, ramp, noise and grid textures.
Rendering combines a physically based path tracer for final frames with a fast hardware renderer for previews, so users can finish work without leaving the application. The site also provides a features overview, a section for Maya users, a download page, an FAQ and a GitHub link.
Inca is best suited to Maya users looking for a free alternative, students learning a professional-style 3D pipeline, and independent artists who want mod
