iFixit

iFixit positions itself as a global repair community built around the belief that broken devices should be fixed, not discarded. The site combines a vast library of free repair manuals with a store for parts and tools, plus advocacy work for Right to Repair legislation. It serves as both a practical resource and a movement hub for people who care about extending the lifespan of their electronics.

The core offering is a collection of over 63,000 step-by-step repair guides covering phones, laptops, consoles, and household appliances. Each guide includes photos, difficulty ratings, and required tools. Beyond guides, iFixit publishes teardowns that reveal the internal design of new gadgets, runs an Answers forum for troubleshooting with experts, and offers FixBot, an AI repair assistant. The store sells precision tools and quality-guaranteed parts, with free domestic shipping on orders over $75.

The platform is designed for DIY repairers of all skill levels, from beginners replacing an iPhone battery to experienced technicians diagnosing board-level issues. Educators and repair cafés use the guides for teaching, while repairability advocates rely on the site’s scores and campaigns. Anyone frustrated by planned obsolescence will find practical support here.

New users should start by searching their exact device model to find a matching guide, then review the tool list before beginning. The Answers forum is useful when a guide doesn’t cover an unusual fault. For purchases, check
