inua stands out for its restrained visual language: hairline borders, a single accent color, and surfaces that stay hidden until needed. The Go and GTK4 stack, with layouts written as Blueprint markup and styling driven by color tokens, makes it approachable for tinkerers who want to read and modify

Site introduction

inua is a desktop shell for Linux that fills in the pieces a bare compositor leaves out. Instead of shipping a full desktop environment, it provides the everyday surfaces — a bar, launcher, control center, notifications, dock and settings — as a single, quiet layer on top of your window manager. The project currently targets Hyprland.

Each component is deliberately minimal. The bar shows workspaces as small squares, the focused window and the time. The launcher searches apps and open windows in one field, and Escape returns you to exactly where you were. The control center handles Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, power, brightness, sound and media through services you already run, while notifications appear as a brief banner and then settle into a list grouped by app.

The shell is written in Go without cgo, using GTK4 through puregotk, so the whole thing builds with a single go build. Every surface is a Blueprint file styled from color tokens, with Go filling in the behavior. That structure makes it easy to audit, restyle or extend.

It is aimed at Linux users who run Hyprland and want a consistent desktop layer without adopting a full environment, especially those comfortable reading source code and adjusting markup-based layouts. Install it from the project page, try the default theme first, then customize colors and shortcuts in the settings window, where changes apply as you make them.
