WinXP.si recreates Microsoft Windows XP Professional inside a browser tab, aiming at the look and behavior of the original rather than a loose tribute. The Luna visuals, icons, pointers and system sounds are reproduced closely, so the first impression is recognizably the 2001 desktop rather than a modern imitation.
The simulation covers a full boot, logon, shutdown and restart cycle, then hands over a working desktop with Start menu, taskbar, Control Panel, Explorer and Command Prompt. Bundled programs include Notepad, Paint, Minesweeper, Solitaire and Internet Explorer, and a virtual C: drive keeps files and settings across reloads, stored locally in the browser only.
Internet Explorer is wired to the Wayback Machine, so it opens archived web pages as they appeared in earlier years, which makes the site useful for demos, screenshots and teaching how software looked before flat design. No download, installation or account is required to begin.
It fits people feeling nostalgic for the XP era, educators and writers illustrating computing history, and developers or designers checking period details. Treat it as a demonstration rather than a secure environment: keep nothing important on the virtual drive, since data stays in one browser and can be cleared with its storage.
