Social Browser

Social Browser is a browser-based viewer for SocialSpec, an open format that treats a domain name as a social profile. Instead of signing up for a platform, a site publishes a handful of plain files next to its feed, and any compatible app can display that information. The tool is made by the team behind Downread.

The core interaction is simple: enter a domain and the browser shows the profile it publishes, including the latest posts, the sites it follows, a contact card, and an about page. Example domains such as manton.org and calebhailey.com are offered as starting points. Everything is read directly from the site, with no account or intermediary platform involved.

This makes the site most useful for site owners experimenting with SocialSpec, developers evaluating the standard, and readers who prefer open, self-hosted social formats over closed networks. It also serves as a practical demonstration of what the specification looks like in real use.

To get the most from it, start with the provided example domains to understand the profile structure, then try your own domain to see what is currently published. Since the format is still new, coverage is limited to sites that have adopted SocialSpec, so expect a sparse directory rather than a full social network.
