nomoat

nomoat is a crowdsourced directory built around a simple premise: some software is small and specific enough that buying it beats building it. Rather than ranking giants, it collects the long tail of focused products, currently listing over 5,000 entries, and presents them as businesses that still hold a moat despite their narrow scope.

The directory organizes products by what they do, with categories spanning invoicing and billing, bookkeeping, payments, payroll, scheduling, CRM, email marketing, forms, analytics, uptime monitoring, website builders, online shops, customer support, documents and e-signature, project management, time tracking, inventory, and design. Sorting options include best match, most wanted, most verified revenue, longest running, newest, recently updated, and alphabetical, so you can weigh traction against longevity.

It suits founders and indie hackers looking for acquisition targets or market gaps, buyers seeking a narrowly focused tool instead of a bloated suite, and researchers mapping the small-software landscape. Because entries are community-submitted, treat listings as leads rather than verified endorsements.

A practical approach is to filter by the job you need done, then sort by most verified revenue or longest running to gauge staying power. If you know a product that fits the thesis, the add-software flow lets you contribute it. In short, nomoat is a useful starting point for discovering and evaluating small, specific software businesses.
