Better Shot

Better Shot is a native macOS application built around a simple premise: capture clearly and share beautifully. It combines screenshot capture and screen recording in a single app, targeting people who regularly produce walkthroughs, tutorials, bug reports, or design feedback and want polished results without paying for a subscription.

The core workflow covers the full path from capture to export. For video, you can record your screen and add timeline-based zooms to highlight important details, include a face cam with adjustable layouts, and generate captions on-device. For screenshots, the app offers gradient backgrounds with adjustable padding, corners, and shadows, plus annotation tools such as arrows, outlines, and numbered steps. Finished work can be exported with configurable settings or shared via a generated link.

Because it is free, open source, and requires no account, Better Shot suits indie developers, designers, educators, and support teams who want professional-looking captures without recurring costs or watermarks. It is less suited to Windows users or organizations that depend on deep third-party integrations.

A practical tip: start with the 72-second launch video on the site to see the capture, annotation, and export flow before downloading. Since the project is community-built, checking the GitHub releases page for updates is worthwhile. Overall, Better Shot is a focused, no-cost option for Mac users who value clean output over ecosystem lock-in.
