Site introduction

editmd is a small macOS application built around a single idea: editing Markdown should feel like using a word processor, while the file on disk stays plain Markdown. It comes from developer Kira Howe, who now spends much more time editing documentation because AI models write much of the code, and who prefers to work in Markdown rather than rich-text formats.

The core problem it addresses is concurrent editing. Most editors either overwrite the other party’s changes or interrupt you with a ‘the file changed on disk’ warning. editmd uses Y.js to merge incoming changes in real time, so when an agent adds references, fills in quotes, or appends code examples to an open file, those edits simply appear while your unsaved work stays intact.

Undo behavior is scoped deliberately: Cmd-Z reverses only your own changes and never rolls back what an agent wrote. That makes the editor practical for workflows where a person and an agent work on the same document simultaneously, such as drafting a spec while an agent gathers sources.

It is aimed at Mac-using developers and technical writers who already collaborate with coding agents and want a lightweight, distraction-free editor rather than a full document platform. Because this is a 0.1.0 release, expect rough edges; try it on secondary documents first and keep backups of important files.

In short, editmd treats agent edits as collaboration rather than conflict, which is a sensible default for AI-assisted writing.
