Meta Redux is Bozhidar Batsov’s personal blog, and this post announces neorepl 0.1, a new terminal REPL aimed at Clojure and other nREPL-capable languages. The author frames it as a replacement for the aging REPLy behind lein repl, built to bring a CIDER-like experience to developers who do not use Emacs.
The core design choice is nREPL all the way down. neorepl only speaks nREPL, so it works with anything running an nREPL server, including Clojure, babashka, shadow-cljs, Basilisp, and ClojureCLR. When cider-nrepl is present it uses those extensions, falling back to nREPL’s built-in operations and then to evaluating code directly.
Usability features include a proper line editor, highlighting, completion, arglists shown as you type, pretty printing, per-project history, and a Ctrl-C that actually interrupts evaluation. The same lookups available in the REPL are also exposed as CLI commands, making the tool useful for scripts and coding agents as well as interactive sessions.
It is aimed at terminal-first Clojure developers, babashka scripters, and anyone who wants CIDER-style assistance without adopting Emacs. Those already comfortable with REPLy or CIDER will find the transition natural, while Emacs users may not need it. Try neorepl 0.1 if you want a modern nREPL terminal client.
