Hatamoto positions itself as a batteries-included content management system built for what it calls the agentic era. Rather than assembling a stack from separate plugins, it bundles the common publishing needs — page builder, SEO, caching, forms and redirects — into one Go binary that runs next to Postgres. The project is open source under Apache-2.0 and is distributed via GitHub, with a Docker Compose setup for local starts.
The feature set leans heavily on machine readability. Pages emit JSON-LD and sitemaps, an llms.txt file is generated for language models, and an MCP server exposes the CMS to AI agents. Its AI crawler analytics are counted server-side, so bots that never execute JavaScript are still recorded, then verified against published IP ranges and reverse DNS and grouped by fetch purpose.
Operationally, Hatamoto avoids the usual runtime sprawl: no PHP, Node or Redis to maintain. Plugins run sandboxed in WebAssembly with only the permissions you grant, and updates are signed and automatically rolled back if a check fails. No telemetry is collected, and all data stays in your own Postgres instance.
It fits developers and small teams who want a self-hosted CMS with modern SEO and AI-readiness built in, and who are comfortable running a Go service and a database. Teams migrating from WordPress can use the included importer, which preserves existing URLs. Evaluate the plugin sandbox and analytics accuracy against your own traffic before committing.
