YouAssistant targets a specific frustration: the YouTube subscription feed stops being useful once you follow enough channels. Instead of a single chronological list, the extension lets you impose your own structure on that list, turning a flat feed into a set of named collections you actually browse.

The core mechanic is custom category folders. You can group channels by topic, creator type, or any dimension that makes sense to you, with unlimited nesting and drag-and-drop assignment. Real-time search and filtering then narrow the list by category, keyword, or update frequency, and bulk operations let you move, tag, or unsubscribe from many channels at once, with undo available if you change your mind.

Data handling is deliberately conservative. Everything stays on your device by default, and no account is needed for the free tier. An optional account exists solely to enable Pro features such as syncing category configurations across devices, which matters if you watch YouTube on more than one machine.

It is aimed at heavy subscribers rather than casual viewers. If you follow dozens of channels across distinct interests and regularly lose track of what you meant to watch, the folder structure pays off quickly. If your subscription list is short, the setup effort likely exceeds the benefit.

A practical approach is to start with a few broad folders, sort your existing subscriptions into them in one bulk pass, and only add nesting once patterns emerge. The free plan covers
