The core idea is narrow and practical: Photos cannot sort by file size, so albumlean surfaces the biggest videos and same-size duplicates first, with a running total of how much space a selection would free. Everything runs locally, which matters for people uneasy about uploading libraries. The trad

Site introduction

albumlean is a small Mac utility built around one problem: iCloud storage fills up, and the culprit is almost always video. Rather than offering a general cleaner, it focuses on the Photos library and answers a question Apple’s own app does not — which files are actually taking the most space. It requires macOS 13 Ventura or later and runs on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

The app scans the whole library in seconds and presents videos sorted by real file size, with columns for duration, resolution and creation date. A search field filters by filename, and a duplicates view groups files with identical sizes so extra copies can be selected together. A selection counter shows the total space that would be freed before anything is removed.

Deletion is deliberately conservative: chosen items go to Recently Deleted rather than being erased outright, so a mistake can be undone from within Photos. The developer states that processing is 100% local, with no account, payment or license key needed at present; a paid version is planned for later.

It suits Mac users with large photo and video libraries, especially those who record screen captures, drone footage or long 4K clips that quietly accumulate. Anyone who prefers to review files by size before deleting, rather than trusting an automatic cleaner, is the intended audience.

A sensible routine is to scan periodically, sort by size, and clear the largest and duplicate videos first, keeping an eye on the freed-space total before
